5Great for cake batter
By K. Ross
I've only used this a few times now, and only for cake batters, but it works very well for that. The only downside compared to the stock mixer attachment is after mixing, it takes longer to scrape all the extra batter off of the mixer attachment than the original, so even though I don't have to stop the mixer to scrape down the sides of the bowl, I have to spend an extra minute scraping the mixer attachment when I'm done. LOL

I will note that the construction is okay, but it isn't solid metal like the stock KitchenAid attachment, but is some sort of plastic. The only metal in the attachment is at the top where it attaches to the mixer. So I don't know how well this will hold up when mixing heavier mixes, like stiff cookie dough or bread dough. I haven't tried yet. If/when I do try, and if it breaks, I'll be sure to update this review.

Hope this helps!

UPDATE 11/29/2012:
I've had this for about a year now, and it's still going strong. I love this attachment. It does a much better job of mixing than the stock paddle attachment. The stock one would leave dry flour in the bottom of the bowl. This one does not. It works great for cookie dough. The gaps around the edge are big enough to let chocolate chips through, so they don't get wedged between the mixer attachment and the bowl. After a year, this still looks like new. No cracks anywhere. Because it has held up so well over the last year, I'm upgrading my review from 4 stars to 5 stars, as it seems my initial concerns about the durability were unfounded.

Highly recommended!

5Makes having my mixer worth it
By Mukl
At first, coming from a hand mixer, I was frustrated that I still had to scrape the bowl down when I used my stock mixer paddle. I figured, why did I spend a ton of money when I wiping down the sides is still necessary and yet easier when using a hand mixer.

The Sideswipe changed everything. I can't wait to use it again and again and again. It's hypnotizing...kind of like staring into a campfire.

So far, it's almost like cheating using it on brownies, cakes, cheesecake. On cookies, it worked just fine even after putting in chips and nuts.

It does cut down mixing time...except for one thing...your butter must be soft or you must mix your butter for just a bit longer than you think. Otherwise it will come out with a few lumps. It's key to remember, once butter is combined with other ingredients, there's a chance it won't smooth out...so your butter must be smooth before you add anything else. It isn't a big deal...just let the butter run a little more than you think you need to at a little higher speed and this smooths it out perfectly.

Probably going to order one for my sister-in-law and Aunt when their birthdays come up this year.

5I love this product
By Michael Lefevre
This product works a lot better then I expected. I will be buying another one in the future. scrapes the sides of the bowl really well and really helps with creaming air into recipes.
