Your Old Sensor May Actually Work Fine

I had the problem described above: motor revving up to top speed then automatically shutting off. I opened the machine up and I couldn't see anything wrong with the expensive "control assembly" or the sensor. I did see that this sensor is badly seated in my K-A "HD" "pro"--i.e. had lots of wiggle. Someone online suggested shimming it. I did this (I cut up a grocery store discount card and jammed strips of it around 2-3 sides), and after a few different tries, it started working fine again.

cheap fix

Just what I needed - the mixer would speed up to full speed and then shut itself off after 4 seconds or so... Apparently this is somewhat common?!? Disappointed in KitchenAid for the lack of quality (my mixer is 2 years old), but this is the correct part. Also, best price around.

does your mixer immediately go to top speed? you might need this.

Our late model, tangerine colored KitchenAid broke recently. As soon as you turned it on, it would go immediately to top speed. When we took it to an appliance repair place, this is the $11 part they replaced (plus $70 labor). I wanted to write this review in case someone else experienced this same problem, and might be able to replace this part on their own -- it's very easy to do.
