5Professional Quality - At it's Best!
By Scott Anderson
As a professional chef I tend to overwork and run down many lesser quality home models of mixers. This is my 3rd KitchenAid Mixer. The first two were 5 qt models, one stand the other tilt. Both are still working, I just needed a more commercial version with more horsepower for larger recipes

Let me first go over the Pros of this item:

Heavy duty quality
Commercial cord, so it can be used in a commercial establishment
Easy to clean
Very quiet - quieter than the previous two models
Easy to raise and lower mixing bowl
7 qt bowl allows for larger batch items
Loads of power
Slow start to avoid powder messes in the kitchen
Professional feel
Fits on counter under cabinets
Attachments are dishwasher safe

Now for the Cons:

Does require a large foot print
Bowl does need extra force to lock into place
Working with dough needs a little finesse when first learning

Now, I rated the pros and cons based upon most home cooks. In using a professional model mixer I have learned that the cons come with the territory. The bowl is often hard to lock on due to it needed to be very secure. The attachments do come off with a little difficulty but you need to remember that you need to drop the bowl all the way before removing the attachment. I've not purchased a pouring shield as of yet, but will update the review after the purchase.

Since I use the same version of machine, only larger I'm used to the quirks and different ways the attachments secure and how you need to drop the bowl and then remove the attachment. Sometimes with heavy mixing or a full bowl you will have to work the beater or blade off the locking unit, but that's normal. If you really want your attachment to pull up out of the bowl, then purchase a tilt head unit.

Think before you purchase and actually get out to a store to look over the mixer before you decide to buy. If you are not going to use the heavy duty features and you are concerned as to the ease of attachments and heavy footprint the mixer demands then I'd suggest going to one of their small 5 qt tilt head or stand mixers. Similar quality but with more home and less commercial features.

For me, it's well worth the price to have a commercial grade unit. This would be perfect for small start up bakeries or home cooks working out of the house making cupcakes, cakes and pastries.

4Maybe a little too much for a home kitchen.
By D. Goodwin
Bought refurbished off kitchenaid website in Nov 2012 because it was much cheaper than Amazon but the warranty is only 6 Months instead of two years becuase it was refurbished.
We use it in home kitchen. Plenty big for a double batch of cookies or cake.
Plenty of power we only brought it up to half speed.
Need to start slow or it makes a mess in the kitchen.
Must take off the beater before removing the bowl.
Can not tip our two cup mesuring cup into so have to ladle out the flour.
Can tip the one cup into the bowl.
All the attachements for the other kithenaid stand mixers fit this one also.
The beater can be cleaned in dishwasher but it will discolor.
Easy to clean
have not found a splash guard or pouring ledge for this like the smaller bowls have.
Dont think I could use a smaller bowl with this because the bowl attaches to the stand on 3 sides.
Had I known then what I know now I would have gotten the 600 Professional tilt head instead. (since we dont use it to make bread and heavy dough stuff.)
Plan to keep it for many years and have started buying attachements but won't know how they work until after christmas. The attachements are cheaper on Amazon and cheaper when bought as a set. There are pasta making attachemnets and Ice cream making bowl, Grinders, sausage stuffers, etc.

4Love My KitchenAid
By Lee Hester
This is my third KitchenAid mixer. I've upgraded to the nex size each time. This commerical mixer kneads stiff bread dough with ease. However it seems to take longer to whip cream and egg whites. I'll be using my 6 Qt. for those recipes.
